The Great Northern Railway (StPM&M) in 1887 and 1889

Just after the completion of the CPR, here is a potential nemesis - the expanding St Paul Minneapolis and Manitoba (later the Great Northern Railway) of JJ Hill.

The following images come from an 1887 Official Guide.
Before anyone conceived of acid-free paper, this publication was intended for a few months' service.
About 130 years later, it is too fragile to place on a scanner so the pages are photographed.
In some cases circular holes - acid + atmospheric humidity - can be seen in the paper.
